The Knox men's soccer team wrapped up the 2017 regular season as co-champions of the Midwest Conference. The Prairie Fire finished with an overall record of 13-2-4 and a Midwest Conference record of 8-0-1.

Nearly 400 first-year and transfer students enrolled for their first term at Knox College in fall 2017.

Eight Carthage music students participated in the Wisconsin regional voice competition for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). The competition was held Nov. 2-3 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The newest Carthaginians include 720 freshmen and 90 transfer students. They come from 23 U.S. states and five foreign countries: Canada, China, Japan, Kenya, and Serbia.

Each member school in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selects student-athletes from each of the three sport seasons (fall, winter, spring) to be honored as Academic All-Conference members. To be eligible, an individual must have an overall grade point average of 3.30 or above and must have lettered in their respective sport for that season. These are the spring and winter sport recipients.

More than 3,000 students earned a spot on the Dean's List

A total of 11,101 students enrolled during the 2017 spring semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

Part-time SUNY Canton students receive honors for the spring 2017 semester.

The following local residents were among the 606 students who received degrees during the Commencement exercises at Grove City College on May 20, 2017. Delivering this year's Commencement address was Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence. The Class of 2017 was the largest class in Grove City College 140 year history. In recent years, the Grove City College's four-year graduation rate has climbed to 78 percent, while its six-year graduation rate has reached 83 percent. The average graduation rate in the U.S. is 59 percent.

The Smeds Executive Internship Program is a summer internship program that allows Carthage College students to apply their coursework in real-world settings, and enables companies and organizations to employ students for real-work projects while evaluating them as potential employees. Smeds Executive Interns are typically paid by the companies/organizations and earn a stipend from funds earmarked by the program's benefactor, Edward Smeds '57, who chaired the Carthage Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2011.

Each year, the Carthage Music Department holds its most prestigious music event, the Honors Recital, as a celebration of the excellent work done by its students. The students selected are honored as the best performers of the year. The recital's participants are chosen through a highly selective audition process. In order to be selected for the event, musicians must show mastery in their given instrument and choose a music that is self-contained, in that it focuses on a particular composer or theme.

Four members of the Carthage College softball team landed a spot on the 2017 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin All-Conference Softball Team.

Carthage College softball utility player Darian Pelsor was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Softball Hitter of the Week on TMay 2. Pelsor also landed CCIW Hitter of the Week on March 22, 2016.

Carthage held the seventh annual Celebration of Scholars event on Friday, April 28, 2017. Celebration of Scholars is a poster exhibition that features original research, scholarship, and creative work completed by Carthage students.

The Trine University Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble will present their spring concert at 3 p.m. April 30 in the Ryan Concert Hall of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

A group of Carthage voice students competed at the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition. Sophomore Laura Smith, from the studio of Prof. Elena Batman, was awarded the second prize in the sophomore women category. Laura faced tough competition from the most important music schools in the Chicago area.

Illinois Central College released the names of students who earned President's List honors during the Fall 2016 semester.

The "Mythological Japan and Musical Storytelling" study tour allowed members of the Carthage Wind Orchestra to discuss the use of mythological figures and storytelling within the historical context of ancient Japan.

This travel course examined the historical role of biodiversity and environment in the development of both Taiwan and Singapore.

Augustana College announced 986 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2016 fall term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.
